  • Caffey's disease or Infantile Cortical Hyperostosis is a rare disorder developed during the first few months of life.
  • It usually involves the tubular bones and mandible,sometime flat bones such as the cranial vault and scapula may be affected.
  • Infection may be suspected but there are  no local sign of inflammation except Painful swelling over the affected bones.
  • X-ray shows periosteal new bone formation resulting in marked swelling of the affected bones in the X-ray plate.
  • It is resolved spontaneously after few months.Sometime antibiotics like Penicillin are employed but efficacy is doutful.
